Engr. Ian B. Benitez and Engr. Ma. Divina Angela I. Bauzon, Senior Science Research Specialists of Project SINAG, participated in the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) Training held on March 15-17, 2023 at Luxent Hotel, Quezon City.
GEMS data products are a welcome innovation when it comes to quantifying the impact of dust on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. With better spatial resolution compared to the dust data from Himawari 8/9 aerosol property products, GEMS data opens new doors for more accurate and reliable analysis of solar PV performance. The GEMS training also provided an excellent opportunity to introduce alternative data products for various applications. At the same time, their hands-on and interactive training approach cultivated a better appreciation of the data and its potential uses, specifically for its participants coming from various government agencies, HEIs, SUCs, and research institutions.
